Turks loved beheading people

I found a book that has good reproductions of the Ottoman "miniatures" that record the events of the Siege of Siget in 1566.  The Ottomans used a graphic way to record events in addition to the written account.

In the pictures from Siget I see a lot of beheadings.  The fact that they record this seems like this was something to be proud of.  This was not a dirty secret to be hidden.

Even at the start of the siege there are already heads on the ground and one on a pole.
See bottom left.

The following picture is of the fight for Old Town.  A large number of Siget soldiers could not retreat because the Turks cut them off.  The Turks carry out battlefield beheadings.

After the battle the soldiers take the heads to the grand vizier and sultan and receive a reward of 10 ducats per head they bring.  Some live prisoners are also brought to grand vizier.

After Zrinski's final charge, dead bodies everywhere and in the foreground a body with decapitated head.

After the conquest of Siget, many heads are brought to the grand vizier. Nikola Zrinski's head is supposedly the lone head in the middle of the three piles.
